I’m at a loss for words. This project and accompanying short film, To Scale: The Solar System by Wylie Overstreet and Alex Gorosh,
is so incredibly awe-inspiring and so beautifully executed, that it
will make me dream of the cosmos tonight (maybe every night). The
premise is simple: to build a solar system model to scale. The result,
done on an empty 7-mile stretch on a dry lakebed in Nevada, is just
awesome.
On a dry lakebed in Nevada, a group of friends build the first scale model of the solar system with complete planetary orbits: a true illustration of our place in the universe.
We see the
orbits of each planet, how far they are apart from each other, and what
size they are. It’s worth the watch. Multiple times over.
